Diamonds, The Four C's

DON’T BUY DIAMONDS IN THE DARK

Since buying a diamond is such an important emotional purchase and often a financial investment of some size, it is smart to buy sensibly.

A diamond is judged by four distinct factors that combine in a number of ways to arrive at its value. These are called the 4 C’s.

  1. Carat Weight:
  2. The weight of a diamond is expressed in carat weight. One carat is divided into 100 points, so that a diamond of 25 points is described as a quarter or 0.25-ct.

  3. Clarity:
  4. Almost all diamonds contain minute traces of non-crystallized carbon. Called inclusions they are nature’s finger prints and make every diamond quite unique. However, the fewer there are, the rarer the stone will be.

  5. Colour:
  6. The majority of the colours range from those with barely a perceptible yellow or brownish tint, up to those that are very rare and are described colourless, thereby being more valuable.

  7. Cut:

The cut of a diamond will dramatically influence its brilliance and sparkle, for it is the diamond cutter's skill that releases its beauty.

With this in mind remember a ‘Fifth C’ which is Confidence in your Jeweller. At Jose Jewellers we will advise and help you to choose the right quality diamond as well as stylishly designed piece of jewellery.

As you can see, a careful and responsible attitude is needed when buying diamonds. The satisfaction comes in wearing them.
